Les préparatifs de Noël

Les préparatifs de Noël se résument cette année à une très jolie crèche de chez Costco au niveau de détails très impressionnant: les chinois travaillent bien.
Et oui: made in China.
Au prix des arbres de Noël, cette année sera sans: $200 pour un très beau sapin assez haut, en plastique.

Doug en a acheté un à $40 (un vrai) mais j'ai cru comprendre que ce fut toute une expédition pour le transporter avec son 4x4.
Il m'a invité le 25 à venir prendre un café: il m'appellera pour confirmer.
Pour Thanksgiving, il devait aussi m'appeler, j'attends toujours.

Idem pour un week-end où il devait me présenter à un de ses amis pour l'assurance maladie (qui est ma prochaine préoccupation): j'attends toujours aussi.

Eliane me confirme que les Américains sont très bons pour lancer des invitations qui ne se concrétiseront jamais: c'est fort désagréable, dans un pays où quand même les paroles ont une valeur légale (contrairement à la France).

Eliane me renseigne sur l'origine des "Candy Canes", un symbole relativement Chrétien passé dans le rituel de Noël:

"A candymaker in Indiana wanted to make a candy that would remind people of the true meaning of Christmas; so he made the candy cane to incorporate several symbols for the birth, ministry, and death of Jesus Christ. He began with a stick of pure white, hard candy.
White to symbolize the Virgin Birth and the sinless nature of Jesus, and hard to symbolize the Solid Rock, the foundation of the Church, and the firmness of the promises of God.
The candymaker then shaped his cane into the form of a "J" to represent the precious name of Jesus, who came to the earth as Savior.
It could also represent the staff of the "Good Shepherd" with which He reaches down to to reclaim the fallen lambs who, like sheep, have gone astray.
Thinking that the candy was somewhat plain, the candymaker stained it with red stripes.
He used three small stripes to show the stripes of the scourging Jesus received. The large red stripe was for the blood shed by Christ on the cross so that we could have the promise of eternal life."
